Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing, what is it and how can it help? The main aim of social media marketing is to engage with your target market. Select the channels that your customers use and use appropriate tactics to keep them interacting with your brand. It sounds simple but it like most marketing activity it takes effort and thought.

Social media engagement could be comments, likes, shares or link clicks on your posts. The benefits of social media marketing include the potential to increase your reach, visitors to your website and even sales. Overall it should help to build a connections between your brand and your consumers.

Strategy

Before you start to make changes to your social media marketing strategy it is useful to take note of your current position. That might be by recording how much engagement you’re currently experiencing, through which channels, and with what content. The once you know where you are you and start thinking about where you would like to be. A goal might be to increase post interactions by 10%. This goal might lead you to think about specific tactics to achieve those results.

Add Value

While social media has been largely highjacked by marketeers it is important not to focus solely on sales pitches. If your audience thinks you’re only interested in selling to them they could might become disengaged. You could consider the 80/20 rules here. Provide real value with 80% of your posts and promote your business the other 20%. What constitutes real value might vary but begin by thinking about what problems your customers face. Produce posts that inspire, entertain and educate and are more likely to build engagement.

Optimisation

Consistency is key with social media marketing. Try to optimise your posting frequency.  This will vary and may need some experimentation. The sweet spot is to be appear at the right place and the right time. Only post when you have something to say if you want to maintain engagement. Take the time to monitor what frequency works best for your business and industry and make adjustments based on this information.

Calls to Action

Use strong calls to action and considered written content. Planning ahead can help to give you time to think about what is going to have a impact on your audience. If you want them to click or comment make sure you invite them to do so. Always try to lead with the most important information so you have the best change to pique their interest.

As with all marketing there is no definitive answer on how to increase engage with social media marketing. It is always useful to understand where you are and where you want to be and keep monitoring your activity to see what works best for you.
