NIGEL STONIER – ALBUM COVER AND PACKAGING
The Multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer, Nigel Stonier, kindly asked us if we’d be interested in creating an album cover for his latest release “Navigate”. We’re all big music lovers here at Red Fred, and this is an area of design that we’d love to be more involved in, so we jumped at the chance!
The Look & Feel
Initially, Nigel sent us the title track, and the creative team sat down to listen. Sketching ideas and writing down words as we listened to the song several times. These were conveyed to the client, who was happy with what we took from the song as a starting point to create some initial concepts.
A shortlist of four designs, were sent to the client, who found it very difficult to chose which of the four he wanted to move forward.
He felt that the design he chose best represented the dystopian, almost Orwellian, feel of the song. With minimal changes, we forged ahead with the rest of the CD Digipak ensuring it was sympathetic to the cover.
We created the design, bringing together elements of typography, photomontage and collage.
The final album cover design is shown in the images to the left, and you can hear more of Nigel’s music here.
“I approached Red Fred Creative to pitch ideas for the cover of my 7th solo album “Navigate”.
I knew that John and Jonathan were passionate music fans, and I was impressed by the promptness and diligence with which they went about listening to tracks – there was a clear intention to understand the stories and feelings behind the music and we duly had regular dialogues on this.
I was then literally blown away as Red Fred submitted 4 design ideas, all of which were excellent and any of which I would have been happy to use. The one I settled upon is now going out into the world and already receiving plaudits.
“Navigate” will be promoted, seen and heard nationally and internationally.
I would heartily recommend Red Fred to anyone looking for album cover design or artwork for music related projects.
In 20 years of producing albums for internationally known acts – and releasing my own solo albums – I have worked with and observed many designers.
I genuinely consider Jonathan and John to be ‘top drawer’ and consummate professionals in every aspect of their work.
